Also note that deleting songs from the itunes library is very different from deleting songs from the harddrive. Even if it asked you to "send files to recycle bin" when you were deleting from the library, the files would still be in your recycle bin until that is cleared. Assuming the files are still somewhere on your harddrive, in itunes, simply go to file/add folder and locate the music folder where the songs were stored. Re-add and you're back in business. (And ditto on backups...I have music backed up on at least 4 different hardrives in 3 different locations!)

EDIT: Also, sometimes itunes can't find songs because the library location set in file preferences advanced is changed back to default. You may need to reset the library location to locate your files.
